How to play Dompe

Play money only. No prizes. 18+ only.

El Comi’s Dompe is a free six-card table game for two to seven players. You draw a card, check whether your six cards make a winning hand, and dump one card. The first player to lay down a valid six-card hand takes the pot. This page walks you through a hand from start to finish. The full rules list every detail.

The goal

Make one of the winning six-card hands before anyone else does. You always hold five cards between turns and six cards while you decide, and you must use all six cards. The winning hands are El Comi (four of a kind plus a pair), a six-card straight flush, a six-card flush, a six-card straight, and three pair.

What you play with

Dompe uses 53 cards: a standard 52-card deck plus one Joker. The Joker is fully wild, so it can stand in for any card you need. Everyone at the table plays with play-money chips. Chips have no cash value and never cash out.

Step 1: the deal

Every player is dealt five cards face down. The first player to the right of the dealer gets six. That player checks for an instant win and, if there is none, dumps one card face up in the middle to get down to five. The dealer changes every hand.

Step 2: your turn

Play moves counter-clockwise. On your turn you do three things in order:

  1. Draw. Take the exact card the last player just dumped, or draw the top card of the face-down deck. You now hold six cards.
  2. Check for the win. If your six cards make a winning hand, lay it down and the hand is over.
  3. Dump. If not, dump one card face up. Play passes to the next player.

Step 3: winning with all six cards

Regular five-card poker hands such as a full house do not count by themselves, and neither does five of a kind. When you complete one of the hands below, you lay it down with the big DOMPE button and take the pot.

Whoever lays down a valid hand first wins. The order of the list is for display only. If your Joker could make more than one hand, it counts as the highest one.

The ante and your one bet

At the start of every hand the dealer picks an ante from 5 to 25 chips, and everyone at the table puts in that amount. During a hand you may make one bet, on your own turn only. Everyone else can only call it or fold, and nobody can raise. Because you bet without showing your cards, your bet is the one place in the game where you can bluff.

Getting started

  1. Create a free player account with a player name and a password. Dompe also asks for your email address and your date of birth, because you must be 18 or older to play.
  2. Mint your coin: a personal collectible game item with your name on it. Coins have no cash value.
  3. Sit down at a practice table against computer players, or join a live table with other players. Everything is play money either way.

Tips for your first games

Watch what other players dump, because you can take their exact card. Keep your Joker. Practice against the computer players before you try a live table. Our beginner strategy guide and the odds behind each hand have more.
